Jennifer Garner is stepping up her game for the next generation.

After years spent serving as an ambassador for Save the Children, the actress has signed on to join the board of trustees for a six-year term, the organization announced Tuesday.

“In my new role with Save the Children, I hope to make an even bigger difference in the lives of children right here in America and around the world,” says Garner, who often visits with families involved in the Save the Children’s Early Steps to School Success program, which coaches families on activities to help kids grow and learn in the early years.

“All children, whether they are born into poverty or affluence, have the right to grow up healthy, learn and make something of their lives.”

Born in Houston, Texas, and raised in Charleston, W.Va, Garner, 41, is calling on politicians to step up to the plate and join her in providing a strong foundation for the country’s youth.

“Three-year olds don’t even have bootstraps to pull on. Our leaders in Washington and in the states must commit every resource to put all children on an equal path to success,” she says.

As mom to Violet, 8, Seraphina, 5, and Samuel, 2, her three children with husband, and fellow humanitarian, Ben Affleck, Garner’s passion comes from a place of understanding – a quality she hopes to use to her advantage.

“Working with Save the Children, I hope to help young mothers give the same educational boost to their children that I try to give my own kids,” she says.
